OUR WORK

The Incarcerated Gender Violence Survivors Initiative works with pro bono attorneys to provide direct representation to incarcerated survivors of gender-based violence. IGVSI assists survivors with complex legal matters, including:

  • Sentencing or resentencing under New York’s Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act (DVSJA)

  • Criminal defense representation and appeals

  • Parole preparation

  • Clemency

IGVSI CLIENTS

After months of intensive work in partnership with Sanctuary for Families, Davis Polk successfully secured the release of Chloe — a domestic violence and human trafficking survivor — under New York’s Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act . . . 

Sullivan & Cromwell LLP achieved a ground-breaking appellate victory for their pro bono client Nicole Addimando, a survivor of domestic violence who had been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison . . .

S&C client Tanisha Davis, a survivor of severe domestic violence, became one of the first women released from prison under the landmark Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act (DVSJA) . . .

A team of attorneys from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Fincap Law helped secure the release of their incarcerated pro bono client Marie — a survivor of severe domestic abuse who was convicted of second-degree murder . . .
